    Montana

In 1889 Montana became the 41st state to join the union. Today the capital is Helena. Montana is bordered by Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Canada.

Montana’s five largest cities are Billings, Missoula, Great Falls, Butte and Bozeman.

Agriculture in Montana includes cattle, wheat, barley, hay and hogs. Industry includes mining, lumber and wood products, food processing and tourism.
Montana’s symbols include: the flower is the bitterroot, the tree is the ponderosa pine, stones are the sapphire and agate, the bird is the Western meadowlark and the animal is the grizzly bear.
The term Treasure State applies to more than gold, silver or gems that have been found in the state. A drive through Glacier National Park reveals treasures in scenery alone. It lies along Montana's northern border and adjoins Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada, forming the world's first International Peace Park. Glacier Park is the most visited place in Montana.

Then there are the animals. White pelicans, white deer, antelope and elk, moose, snow geese and grizzly bear are often seen.
The Going To The Sun Road in Glacier Park is considered one of the most scenic drives in America. The Indians called the Rockies “The Backbone of the World”. Montana is home to seven Indian reservations.
Near Billings, is the sight of Custer’s Last Stand at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument.

Great Falls is home to the original log cabin studio, home and museum of the great western artist Charles Russell.

Do you like the quiet open spaces? The density of Montana is six people per square mile.

Yellowstone National Park in southern Montana and northern Wyoming was the first national park in the nation.

Montana's rivers and streams provide water for three oceans and three of the North American continent's major river basins.
