    Rhode Island

Rhode Island entered the union in 11790.  It was the last 13th state to do so and was the last of the 13 colonies to join.   Today the capital is Providence.

Rhode Island's bordering states are Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and the Atlantic Ocean. Nickname is the Ocean State.   It is believed that the name came from the idea to advance tourism by suggesting beaches.

Agriculture in Rhode Island includes eggs, dairy products and vegetables.  The state's industry includes electric equipment, boat and ship building, jewelry and silverware making and tourism.

Some of Rhode Island's symbols include:
                Flower is the violet
                Tree is the red maple
Bird is the Rhode Island Red hen
