Rhode Island entered the union in 11790. It was the last 13th
state to do so and was the last of the 13 colonies to join. Today
the capital is Providence.
Rhode Island's bordering states are Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey
and the Atlantic Ocean. Nickname is the Ocean State. It is
believed that the name came from the idea to advance tourism by suggesting
beaches.
Agriculture in Rhode Island includes eggs, dairy products and vegetables. The
state's industry includes electric equipment, boat and ship building,
jewelry and silverware making and tourism.

- Slater Mill Historic Site in Pawtucket is a living museum and heritage
center. Walk through the town and go into the stores, places
of work and homes and learn what life was like from the actors realistically
playing their roles of the time of the beginning of the Industrial
Revolution.
- Rhode Island is our smallest state. It is 48 miles north
to south and 37 miles east to west.
- The Tennis Hall of Fame is in Rhode Island
- Native son George M. Cohen was born in 1878 and went on to write
many of our marching songs such as "you're A Grand Old Flag" and "I'm
A Yankee Doodle Dandy".
- The Industrial Revolution began in Rhode Island with the development
of the water powered cotton mill.
- The oldest school house in the United States was built in 1716. It
is located in Portsmouth.
