In 1791 Vermont became the 14th state to enter the Union. The
capital was Montpelier.
It’s nickname came from the name given to one of the mountain
ranges in the state. Verd Mont (Green Mountain) was the name
given by Rev. Dr. Peters who was the first preacher to visit the settlers
in the area.
Vermont is bordered by Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and
Canada.
Agriculture in the state includes maple products, cattle, hay and
apples. The state’s industries include electronic equipment,
printing and publishing, tourism and paper products.
Some of Vermont’s symbols include:

* Over the years both Hew Hampshire and New York have claimed Vermont
as their state.
* Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream company gives their ice cream waste to
the local Vermont farmers who use it to feed their hogs. The hogs seem
to like all of the flavors except Mint Oreo.
* Speaking of Ben and Jerry’s, if you are looking for a job,
be aware that one of the perks of working there is that each employee
gets three pints of ice cream a day.
Don’t miss.....
If you are
an ice cream lover, Waterbury is the place to go. Ben and Jerry’s
got their start in Vermont and Waterbury is the site of their factory. Take
a tour and don’t miss their flavor graveyard.
Shelburne Museum in the town of the same name. It contains the
many purchases of a Miss Electra Havemeyer. Her multi millionaire
father (who was the founder of Domino Sugar) left her enough money
to play for the rest of her life. She was a shoppers shopper. One
of her best acquisitions was the Ticonderoga which
was the only surviving vertical beam sidewheel steamship in the U.S.,
220 ft long, weighing 892 tons. If you have the time and want
to see everything from boats to buildings and even a complete 1950’s
kitchen, by all means do go.
